Klawock was originally settled by Tlingit natives as a fishing camp and today has fewer than 900 residents. This village is rich in Tlingit culture and boasts Alaska's largest collection of authentic totem poles, many of which can be seen in a community park. The town also has a native long house called Gaaní Ax Adi where you can find locals selling handmade wares. Klawock is located on Prince of Whales Island and overnight accommodations can easily be found in the nearby town of Craig. For fishing enthusiasts, Klawock has plentiful salmon runs in the summer months.
