Recommend you rent a car and explore! Everywhere is open to everyone. So much culture and good food along each journey, stop at the roadside food huts, visit the fruit, nut, coffee & honey farms. Every beach is vastly different, see as many as you can.
A great town! It can be a little touristy, but it still has a small town feeling. I would highly recommend visiting!
The hot, dry, desert side of the Big Island. If you are looking for sun tanning and white sand beaches on the Big Island you have come to the right place! Our beaches on the other side are volcanic rock and sand. Apparently Hawaii is the only place in the US where coffee is grown and Kona is famous for its coffee. You won't have any trouble finding cafes to sample the island blends walking around the streets of downtown Kailua.
Not much to do in the city itself. It is quite small but the tours run from there
