United States citizens are discouraged from traveling to Iran unless necessary. If you choose to travel there on business or vacation, be respectful of the authorities because they have been known to detain Americans on investigation of espionage. Women should travel in the company of a male and should cover up when out in public. Try not to bring valuable items with you when you travel, and do not leave valuables unattended in your hotel room.
Most of the hotels in Tehran are located in the downtown core as well as around Imam Khomeini International Airport. Once you land, you can arrange for a hotel or airport shuttle, hire a car and driver, or hail a taxi. Car rentals are usually not available in this city.
