When Should I Travel To Kosice?

Kosice’s beautiful streets and countryside are the nicest to visit in May through July when tickets will be the most expensive. If you’re not afraid of cold winters with a lot of snow, the other months will be a cheaper but still tourist friendly experience.

Once you’ve landed at Kosice International Airport, head to the transportation hub. You can hop on the number 23 bus, which will take you to downtown Kosice in less than 20 minutes. You can also rent a car or hire a taxi if you’d prefer, but the bus runs frequently and cheaply, so it’s probably the best option unless you have more luggage than usual.

What Is There To Do In Kosice?

Most of Kosice’s tourist attractions are on the long and snaking Main Street called Hlavna Ulica. Along Hlavna Ulica, you’ll find places of worship from half a dozen religions, and be able to walk through nearly a dozen eras of architecture which are broken up block by block. Kosice is a city with history on every sidewalk, so don’t be afraid to wander down a particularly interesting Gothic alleyway or stoical Communist boulevard.

Much of Kosice’s history is documented as plaques on the corners of buildings, and even seemingly homely or normal buildings have a story if you look closely enough.

Be sure to check out the Kulturpark, which is filled with postmodern statues and buskers. If the traditional eastern European aesthetic is more up your alley, check out the St. Elisabeth Cathedral and the Neo-Renaissance Andrassy Palace, two stunningly different yet beautiful sites popular among tourists.

For coffee lovers, the Art Nouveau coffee house Slavia in downtown will offer an old-world sit-down coffee experience that you’ll never forget. Kosice is a safe city, but if you lose your way, you’ll probably find yourself among endless towering rows of identical apartment blocks built in the Communist era.
