Flying Out Of Love Field

Flying to Chicago’s Midway Airport via Dallas’ Love Field Airport is a less traveled route which you might be able to use to pick up some cost savings. On this route, your choice of carriers is quite sparse but includes:

  • Delta
  • Southwest
  • Spirit Airlines

Be sure to check in with us here at Skyscanner while making your booking so that you’ll get as close to your preferred departure time and carrier as you can.

You’ll probably have a layover in Atlanta on this route. Atlanta’s airport has far more eating and shopping options than either Love Field or Midway, so it’s a good time to stock up on whatever you need.

When you fly on this route, you’ll be departing via the main terminal of Love Field. If you’re taking Southwest, your flight will leave from any gate except Gate 11 and Gate 13 whereas if you aren’t taking Southwest, your flight will probably leave from only Gate 11 or Gate 13.

Though Love Field isn’t the most expansive airport, you can pick from a few fast food options while you wait for your flight to depart. Finding a good cup of coffee will be quite tough at Love Field, though. If you’re more interested in shopping, you may be out of luck—there are a couple of news stands, but not a huge variety of shops.

Landing at Midway

After your flight, you’ll find yourself in the passenger terminal, though the concourse will vary depending on the exact flight you book. Getting from Midway into Chicago itself is remarkably easy thanks to the metro station in the basement of the passenger terminal.

If you’d rather take a bus, you can hop onto one from near the taxi stand directly outside Midway’s front gate. You could also hire a cab, call a rideshare, or rent a car,  but your transit choice should be dictated by your final destination. If you’re simply heading downtown, the metro is your best bet. If you’re heading to one of the outer areas, a rideshare or cab is probably a better choice.

Entering Chicago

Chicago is slightly more expensive than Dallas, but probably not enough to cause any sticker shock. Chicago is, however, much colder and windier than Dallas—after all, it’s the Windy City. Pack for cool temperatures in the summer and spring, and pack for the Arctic in Winter. Chicago tends to get a lot of snow to go along with its chilly winds, so boots aren’t a bad choice.
