La Palma Airport serves La Palma, the northwestern-most of the Canary Islands. The airport is located a few miles south of Santa Cruz de la Palma, the capital city of the island. International flights from all over Europe come to this airport, with particularly high traffic from the various major cities of Germany. There are also regular connections to Tenerife and Gran Canaria with Binter Canarias. You also have the option of flying into several other Canary Islands airports and taking the various ferries that connect the different islands.

La Palma High and Low Seasons

La Palma has two peak travel seasons. The traditional summer peak of Europe is also felt out here, as the weather is consistently dry and it is usually not excessively hot. There is also a flood of tourists during the winter months, as they flee the snows and freezing nights throughout Europe for the mild daytime temperatures on the islands. The spring season of March to May and the fall season of September to November see the lowest amount of tourism, but weather remains pleasant. Since the islands have relatively nice weather all year long, there really isn't a "low" season - the best deals will likely be found in the spring and fall.

Major annual events on La Palma include King's Day and the Canary Islands Music Festival in January, Carnival in February, Semana Santa in March, Day of the Cross and Day of the Canaries in May, Corpus Cristi in June, Bajada de la Virgen de las Nievas in July (held just once every five years), Fiestas del Diablo in September, and Day of the Dead in November.

La Palma airport is small and on the basic side, but has a good range of amenities and has plenty of seating. Travelers love the ocean views and the quick in-and-out. It's probably best to have a plan for getting something to eat after leaving, however, as there are only a couple of coffee shops and a small diner. Free WiFi is also available, though it is not the fastest connection around.

Transportation from La Palma Airport

Car rental is available at the airport from Thrifty, Hertz and Europcar. Various private shuttles and taxis are also available. The only public transit that stops at the airport is the Route 500 bus that goes to Santa Cruz de la Palma, which may not be able accommodate large amounts of luggage.

La Palma is a heavily forested island centered around a set of volcanoes. It's the perfect destination for those who love the outdoors, or just want to get away from the constant partying and crowds in Tenerife. The lone major port is Santa Cruz de la Palma, and there are no major stretches of beach or high-profile resorts to attract hordes of tourists. Most people who visit come to hike in the pristine wilderness and enjoy the relaxed local lifestyle. Other activities that people specifically come to La Palma for are paragliding, whale watching, fishing, stargazing and touring some of the eco-friendly island farms that are open to the public.
