Cheap Flights to Virgin Gorda

Once your flight lands at the tiny Virgin Gorda Airport (VIJ), you are set for a vacation that is all about relaxation. Virgin Gorda, a dry and mountainous island in the chain of British Virgin Islands, is truly a laid-back destination. The island offers white-sand beaches, aquamarine ocean waters perfect for swimming, hiking trails and a unique spot featuring gigantic boulders called "The Baths." Dotted with minimal amenities, Virgin Gorda's greatest attractions are provided courtesy of Mother Nature, including stellar beaches and many places along the coastline that are perfect for snorkeling or kayaking.

Virgin Gorda Airport

Virgin Gorda Airport does not receive direct flights from the continental United States, so travelers must use connections from San Juan, Puerto Rico or St. Thomas or other neighboring islands. It is not uncommon for groups of travelers to arrange for a charter flight from St. Thomas or San Juan. Several airlines serve Virgin Gorda Airport, including Seaborne Airlines, Air Sunshine, American Airlines and Cape Air. The airport at Virgin Gorda is a small, no-frills facility with one terminal. If you are staying at a resort, you will probably have access to a free hotel shuttle, but otherwise, taxi service to your island destination is available from the airport. Local rental car agencies can be found in the largest settlement on Virgin Gorda, Spanish Town. Given that it's possible to drive across the island, one end to another, in 20 minutes, you should be able to get to your hotel within 10 minutes. Average taxi fare ranges from $5 to $10 depending on the distance from the airport.

Attractions
Virgin Gorda is famous for The Baths National Park where you will see a beach strewn with very large boulders the size of small houses. It's a wonderful place to explore and swim in the small pools created by the boulders. Neighboring beaches are also worth a visit and are usually less crowded. If you have time, try visiting Nail Bay Beach at the island's northern tip, Savannah Bay Beach close to Spanish Town, or Spring Bay Beach, which is close to The Baths. Virgin Gorda Peak National Park is also an excellent choice if you like hiking. Follow one of two trails in this 265-acre park and hike to the island's highest point, which offers panoramic views of the entire island from an elevated observation tower. If at some point during your stay you develop a hunger for civilization, try a visit to Spanish Town. Although Spanish Town is small, you will be able to find a marina, a few shops and places to eat.
