Arriving in Kansas City

Kansas City may be humble beside some of the country’s big urban centers, but it has a lot going for it. This jewel of the Midwest boasts as many fountains as Rome and it manages to be both pretty and enormously friendly.

 

The museums are great, with many unique exhibits. For something completely out of the ordinary, check out the Steamboat Arabia Museum. The original Arabia sank more than a century ago, but parts of it have been reconstructed here, with incredible artifacts from the 1800s.

 

History buffs will need to pay a visit to the wonderfully moving World War I museum. Art lovers will find a lot to admire in the grand halls of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and admission is free.

 

Of course, Kansas City has a wonderful reputation for BBQ and Blues, and the best thing to do is to find a spot devoted to both. The “Burnt Ends” at BB’s Lawnside Blues and BBQ are worth the trip.
