Getting from Orlando’s Sanford Airport to the humid basin of New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong Airport can be tough. There are very few flights along this route, and only Allegiant Air offers a semi-regular flight. You may be able to book a flight via Alaska Airlines, Delta, or Southwest, but it’s unlikely that those bookings will coincide with your ideal plans.

Leaving Sanford International Airport

You’ll be leaving from Sanford’s domestic section of Terminal A. You should make sure to eat and shop before arriving at the airport, as there aren’t any places to have a sit-down meal there. If you’re hungry for a snack or coffee, your options are limited to Starbucks, Euro Café, Café Ritazza, and Cinnabon.

Likewise, if you want to shop while at Sanford, you’ll have to make do with the newsstands. You may get a bit bored while waiting at Sanford, so plan accordingly.

Sanford’s small size means that it’s rarely crowded, and you should be able to traverse the security line extremely quickly. Make sure to have your US driver’s license ready so that you can board your flight without any mishaps.

Arriving in New Orleans

At Louis Armstrong, you’ll probably land in Concourse C, in Gate 1, 2, 3, or 4. Head downstairs to grab your bags, and then head outside to the taxi stand. Set your watch back one hour to account for the time difference, and get ready to hail a cab—there aren’t any other options other than car rental as far as transit out of Louis Armstrong goes.

Once you’re in downtown New Orleans, you’ll probably notice the extreme humidity and stifling heat year round. Orlando’s warm and humid but relatively mild weather is amplified in New Orleans, which experiences regular torrential rain in the summer and spring. Dress very light, and in clothes that can survive getting wet.

The upshot of New Orleans is that everything is the same price as in Orlando, except seafood, which is much cheaper. Be sure to check out restaurants which serve crawfish pie, as it’s quite delicious. You should be able to get in and out of dinner for two and spend less than $40.
