Landing In Timisoara’s Traian Vuia International Airport
Traian Vuia International Airport is an austere yet fully modern airport which has a small handful of dining and shopping options. If you’re into military technology, be sure to check out the parked aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, which uses Traian Vuia as an airbase. Also of note is the prototype aircraft from the days of pre-flight, located on the front lawn’s roundabout.
Once you’ve found your bearings at Traian Vuia, you’ll have a few options for transport into Timisoara itself. You can hail a taxi, rent a car, or get on the E4 RATT bus line, which runs hourly. The bus tends to be quite crowded, but is very inexpensive. If you take a taxi, be sure to agree on the fare before departure.
If you decide to rent a car, you’ll need to get on the E70 highway westbound. The highway connects directly to the southern tip of the airport, near the town of Ghiroda.
What Is There To Do In Timisoara?
Timisoara’s ornate streets are a picture of history in the Ottoman Empire. While the streetcars of the early 20th century are mostly for show, hopping onto one of the antique trains for an authentic tour of the city is a popular tourist activity.
Walking by the canals at night is also quite beautiful, though tourists would do well to stay in groups if they decide to do so. Timisoara is relatively safe, but pickpockets are likely in crowded areas, as are muggers in isolated areas.
