Guam

A small island located in the western North Pacific, Guam is the southernmost spot near the Mariana Islands. It is a United States’ territory, and consists of three different regions: Northern, Central, and Southern.

A bulk of Guam’s population can be found in the capital city of Hagatna; approximately 175,000 people call this tropical spot their home, yet hundreds of thousands of tourists visit it for its stunning beaches every year. You will find a number of great places to visit regardless of which region you visit. Hagatna is located in the Central region, so this is understandably a tourist zone.

Antonio B. Won Pat International is Guam’s chief operating airport, and it is based a few miles east of the capital. Named after the first United States’ territory delegate, Antonio Bora Won Pat, the airport serves as a central flight hub for both Asia Pacific Airlines and Asia Airlines. Built by the Japanese navy during the middle of World War II, the airport was originally used as a naval defense base.

After the war, it was converted into a civilian-military hybrid, and now processes many flights to multiple locations each year; marked population growth on the island has raised the issue of terminal expansion, which will be needed to accommodate the rising number of passengers. It currently has flight traffic numbering near the 3 million mark. United is the only commercial airliner that offers direct flights to Guam from the United States, while Delta, Japan Airlines, ANA, EVA Air, and Philippine Airlines provide nonstop flights for international visitors.
