Discover Hannover
Hannover Airport is a base for a number of Germany's regional airlines and offers a good mix of both national and international flights. There are actually about as many flights to European destinations from here as there are flights that stay within Germany. Additionally, there is some direct service to places even further afield like Dubai, Moscow and Sharm el Sheik.
When are Fares to Hannover Airport Lowest?
Hannover is not a particular tourist destination and thus does not tend to see large surges in price during certain seasons, except perhaps during Oktoberfest. Pricing patterns do tend to follow those of Germany as a whole, however, which means you can expect peak prices during the summer and the best fares during the cold winter months (outside of the Christmas holidays).
Hannover does have a few major events and gatherings that can cause temporary price spikes on certain weekends, however. These include the UNESCO City of Music concert series (held in June), the Marksmens Fair from late June into early July, the Die Nacht Dein Tag cycling event in late July, and the Maschsee Lake Festival in mid-August.
Arriving at Hannover Airport
United States citizens do not need a visa to enter Germany. You can stay for up to 90 days with just your passport, but beyond that you'll need to arrange some sort of a visa to stay legal.
Hannover is a fairly busy airport and has a good range of amenities. Cafes, bistros and bakeries abound, and if you want a taste of home, there's also a McDonalds. Be aware that though the airport is open 24 hours, at present none of the eateries are, usually closing up at 9 PM at the latest.
Up to three hours of free WiFi per day is available to travelers, as well as paid copy and fax services at the Airport Service Center.
Transportation from Hannover Airport
Driving out of the airport couldn't be simpler. You'll be deposited on the A352 airport connector road, from which you can access either Motorway A7 (to go north toward Hamburg or south toward Frankfurt) or A2 (to go west toward Dortmund or east toward Berlin). Take A2 west to A6 south to get to Hannover. Car rental is available at the airport from Avis, Europcar, and Sixt, and shuttles can take you to Enterprise and Hertz locations just outside the airport.
Hannover has rail service direct to the airport. The S5 S-Bahn departs every half hour from 3:30 AM to 1:00 AM. You'll find the station connected to terminal C. There is also a city bus (the 470) that connects to Langenhagen Zentrum, but as always getting large luggage on it may not be feasible.
