If you’re traveling light, you may want to take one of the small moto taxis, short for motorcycle taxis, to the city.

Rwanda's main attractions are its volcanoes, flora, and fauna. The small African country is home to one-third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, most of which live in Volcanoes National Park, home to five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains. The park was created to protect the gorillas and is famous for the work of American zoologist and anthropologist, Dian Fossey. The movie “Gorillas in the Mist” tells the story of Fossey's work with Rwanda's majestic gorillas. Tours to Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe National Park, and Akagera National Park are available from Kigali.

If you are planning to spend time trekking through Rwanda's parks, when you book your flight to Rwanda, you’ll want to avoid coming during the rainiest months of March, April, and May. The best time to visit is during Rwanda's long dry season, which runs from June through September. Rwanda is located very close to the equator, but its high altitude gives it a relatively pleasant climate. Daytime highs are around 80 degrees, and lows are in the mid 50's with very little change throughout the year.
