Cheap Flights to Moorea
Thatch-roofed bungalows, clear, turquoise waters, lush jungle and white sandy beaches combine to produce the beautiful allure that draws visitors to this 10-mile-wide island off Tahiti. Part of the Society Islands archipelago, Moorea is a self-contained island with villages scattered across its length, the largest of which is Pao Pao. Formerly, the only way to visit the islands was by boat, but the construction of Moorea Airport (MOZ) has made connecting to the island from Tahiti very convenient.

Moorea Airport
Flights to Missoulaare about 15 minutes long on a twin-engine propeller plane, originating in Tahiti and landing at Moorea Temae Airport (MOZ). The airport is small, with one terminal serviced by Air Tahiti. The brightly colored Moorea Tour Bus makes regular stops at the airport, and it can ferry passengers to any part of the island. Visitors can also rent a car or moped. Services at the airport are limited to basic bathroom facilities and a place to grab some snacks and postcards.

Attractions in Moorea
Belvedere Lookout is a popular spot that features utterly stunning views of the primordial, jagged peaks, thick jungle and glittering swaths of ocean in Ōpunohu Bay and Cook's Bay that make this island a green and paradisiacal destination. Along the road to Belvedere, there are the ruins of an ancient temple that is almost wholly swallowed by the jungle. The Tiki Village is a fun way to learn about the historic way of life in this part of the world, including traditional music and dances.

The main feature of the island is its sublime beaches and water sports. Temae has the largest public beach, and it's here that visitors can stretch out in the sand and enjoy the views. Some resorts will also sell a day pass that allows use of their swimming pool and other facilities. Snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving and fishing all provide endless entertainment, but visitors can also rent an ATV for some off-road exploration. Horseback riding is also a popular way to see the interior of the island, and many guides will pick ripe fruit from the trees to share with their group as they ride.

Hints and Tips for Visiting Moorea
The climate is highly humid, with daytime temperatures reaching the 80s throughout the year. December and January experience the highest amount of rainfall, and heavy rainstorms can sometimes reach islands in this part of the world, though their occurrence is rare. Along the coast, mosquitoes are often prevalent at certain times of the year, so visitors should include repellent when packing for their visit.

Cuisine on the island has been deeply influenced by the French, and popular dishes include fresh catches from the sea. Poisson Cru is a delicious dish that is a combination of a soup and a salad with fresh tuna, coconut milk, lime juice, cucumber and spices. Two people can order a light meal for around $12. In June, visitors flock to the island for the Moorea Marathon. June is also the month for the Tahiti-Moorea Sailing Festival.
