First constructed in 1935 as Charlotte Municipal, modern-day Charlotte Douglas International is the area’s principal operating airport. To date, it is the largest flight hub for US Airways; the carrier provides non-stop routes to over 175 destinations from the airfield.
Despite being one of the busiest airports in the United States (for passenger traffic) and world (for total aircraft movements), Charlotte Douglas does not feature any direct routes to Asia.
The facility is outfitted with five concourses, with plans for a new one that will be housed in a wholly separate terminal currently underway. Some of the airport’s notable passenger features include a dedicated public viewing area and an on-site aviation museum.
