Arriving in Charlotte

As genteel and dignified as any other great southern town, but as energetic and prosperous as any other eastern city, the “Queen City” of Charlotte has managed to hang onto its cultural roots while encouraging amazing growth and diversity. Charlotte is now the second-largest financial center in the States after New York City and it continues to boom in the banking, industrial, and technology industries.

This success is evident in the manicured city center packed with shiny new skyscrapers, the lovingly restored neighborhoods full of beautiful mansions and a lively social scene. Charlotte is a great place to go out. The pedestrian-friendly “Uptown” area (which is actually located downtown) has seen an upsurge in restaurant openings and trendy nightclubs.

If you’re bringing the family, be sure to check out the excellent museums: Discovery Place is an absorbing interactive science museum for little ones, while the Mint Museum offers art and craft for all ages and the Levine Museum of the New South tackles post-Civil War history.
