What Airlines Fly This Route?
There are quite a few airlines that fly this route, including Sun Country Air, United, Virgin America, JetBlue, Frontier, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta, and Southwest. The bad news is that the price of this flight route fluctuates wildly depending on which carrier and which dates you choose to fly on, so setting up price alert tool will be a huge boon to your budget flight booking.
Nearly all of the flights along this route have a layover, although there are rare direct flights, so snap them up if you see them.
Where Will I Depart From?
There are a few potential points of departure along this flight route, including one airport that isn’t even in Washington DC at all. You can depart from Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, or Baltimore/Washington Airport.
Each of these airports is medium sized and can be confusing to navigate. Dulles only has one terminal, but it has four concourses—if you aren’t flying United, your flight will depart from Concourse A or Concourse B. There are a few shops and restaurants at Dulles, but keep your expectations low.
If you depart from Reagan National Airport, the terminal you depart from will be determined by your carrier. There are plenty of food opportunities—and a beautiful sun filled national arcade hall between Terminals B and C—but few places to shop, and no Wi-Fi.
If you end up having to depart from Baltimore/Washington Airport, your Concourse will also depend on your carrier. There are a few places to eat and a few places to shop, but the real premium is places to sit, which the airport has very few of outside of the gate areas.
What’s At The Landing Terminal?
San Jose International Airport is a very comfortable mid-sized airport that is replete with beautiful art along its terminal walls. You’ll also find a few tasty restaurants, so don’t hurry out of the airport if you’re hungry. San Jose International Airport is very close to downtown San Jose as well as nearby Santa Clara, but you’ll want to find a rental car using our car rental tool.
Getting around the Valley is extremely expensive and extremely difficult if you don’t have a car. You can suffer through ridesharing services for short trips, but if you plan on sticking around in Silicon Valley for a while, you really should rent a car.
How Are Different Are DC and San Jose?
DC is an expensive city, but San Jose is even more expensive thanks to the tech boom and the resulting money flowing through the city. You probably won’t notice that prices are significantly different, except with certain items like seafood.
DC is an extremely diverse city, and so is San Jose, so in that sense, the two cities have more in common than they have differences. On the whole, DC is very dense and very easy to get around, unlike the Valley and San Jose, however.
Be sure to check out San Jose’s Mexican food scene before you leave—it’s just as tasty and authentic as DC’s Ethiopian food selection.
