Wizz Air is the only carrier that flies to or from Tirgu Mures Transilvania Airport. Adding to the difficulty of getting there, the airport’s only runway is under renovation until at least late 2017, meaning that no flights can go in or out of the airport.

Once flights have resumed, Wizz Air will offer service to various other locations in Europe and Romania. Until then, getting to Targu Mures will require flying in via Cluj International Airport. There is currently a bus which goes from Cluj International Airport to Targu Mures, though it’s a long trip and rather expensive.

As the seat of Transylvania, Targu Mures has a great bus and rail infrastructure for public transportation, so don’t be afraid to hop on or off at any time.

Targu Mures tends to be chilly year round, though it’s temperate enough in the summer months to avoid bringing a heavy coat. It’s cheap to travel to Targu Mures in the spring, which is when it’s also the most beautiful. Spring is also when the town’s biggest attractions—sports teams—are the most active.

Swing by the Targu Mures Stadium to watch the town’s football team play in the Romanian First League. If sports aren’t your thing, check out the Grey Friars church or the Fortress Church, two of the oldest churches in town and popular tourist destinations. Various other famous churches of Unitarian, Evangelical, and Orthodox faiths are sprinkled throughout the town, and many have a stunning external architecture which is met with uniquely Romanian interior decoration.
