Airports In Antarctica
There are a few cities in Antarctica that have airports. It's not a major tourist area, but there are various science programs being conducted by the government and non-profit entities. These programs require runway access to the area. Ice Runway is used by the U.S. Antarctic Program in the summer and used until early December when the breaking up of the sea ice begins. Teniente Rodolfo Marsh Martin Base Airport is located in Isla Rey Jorge and is the most northern airport in Antarctica. It serves the residents of the small village and research station of Villa Las Estrellas. Five buildings serve the airport including a hanger and tower. The airport is served by some public flights. Go to Skyscanner online for flight information and prices. Ice and snow runways are the norm in Antarctica. Planes going to the South Pole land on the blue-ice runway.
