Discover Georgia

Simultaneously old-fashioned and relentlessly modern, this state has an undeniable charm that will catch you off guard. You’ll meet with some of the sweetest hospitality you’re ever known, fall under the spell of its gracious beauty, and be inspired by its reach for a better future.

Flights to Georgia

The main airport here is Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL), which is a massive transport hub for the entire Southeastern region. The good news is that flights to Georgia are frequent and affordable, with 95 million people passing through each year. The airport is huge, with 7 concourses, but fairly easy to navigate.

Once you make it into the city, there’s a direct MARTA city rail line, fixed-rate taxis, and an array of shuttles. Since the airport is conveniently located next to the interstate, renting a car might be your best bet: it’s about a 30 minute drive in good traffic, and then you’ll be free to roam the rest of the state on your own time.

Your other choice for domestic flights to Georgia is Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), which is served by Delta, American Eagle, Jetblue, US Airways, and United, which operate direct flights from selected major US cities. This is a much smaller airport, with less than a million passengers annually.

What to do in Georgia

Atlanta is the star of the show here. It’s a gorgeous modern city which has managed to keep its historic character while aggressively growing its entrepreneurial, cultural, and culinary scenes. The wonderful museums are really worth a visit, especially the Georgia Aquarium (the largest in the world) and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, which celebrates the accomplishments and challenges of the fight for equal rights. As the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Atlanta has a serious commitment to a legacy (and future) of equality.

In the northern part of the state, the Blue Ridge Mountains offer a wild and leafy refuge from the worst of the summer’s heat. The coastal marshlands teem with ecodiversity, and scattered throughout the state are sleepy southern towns and old plantations. Augusta is a golfer’s paradise and the site of the Masters, while Savannah is stuffed with gorgeous antebellum homes, live oaks and a party spirit.
