Making your way to Albuquerque International Sunport

The Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is a small, convenient airport located just three miles from downtown. It’s attractive and comfortable, easy to get around, and there’s free WiFi throughout the terminal. For those traveling with a working animal, there’s a special airside pet relief area. If you’re just bringing along your pup for a holiday, there are some outdoor grassy areas he can use before going through security.

Parking at the Sunport costs between $7 and $10 a day. You have a couple of public transportation options: On weekdays, you can take the free ABQ Ride Public Bus 250 Downtown Express from the Alvarado Transportation Center. Public bus 222 serves the Sunport, connecting ABQ with the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. (The 222 does not have weekend service.). Public Bus 50 also has a stop at the airport, and can be more convenient from parts of the city. It does run on Saturdays, but not Sundays.

Arriving in Phoenix

Phoenix covers 516 square miles, so the first thing to know about this city is that you’re going to want a car to get around. Attractions can be spread out, so a bit of extra planning will keep you from spending too much time driving from place to place.

This big city’s wealth isn’t just in the world-class shopping and incredible restaurant scenes. It’s in the jaw-dropping beauty of its desert landscape. Phoenix has entire mountain ranges within the city limits, where winding trails invite hikers, runners, and casual wanderers alike. Just don’t forget your sunscreen or your water.

If a city mountain is still a little too much wilderness for your taste, you can enjoy the flora and fauna in the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens. The Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park is a must-see for anyone with the slightest interest in history. If you’d like to escape from the sun for an afternoon, duck into the wonderful exhibits at the Heard Museum or the Phoenix Art Museum.
