Route Options and Flight Information

You can choose from three airports when flying out of New York City: JFK, La Guardia and Newark. Note that Newark airport is outside of New York City, but it is easily accessible. JFK and La Guardia are both located on Long Island. The airlines from these airports offer one-stop flights. By far, the greatest number of flights are offered by American Airlines from all three airports, but you can also fly LATAM out of JFK and LaGuardia. JFK also offers Panama City flights on Copa, Asiana and United. Newark also offers United flights to Panama City. Flight time is just under 8 hours.

Departure Airports

You will leave JKF from terminal 4. This terminal has dining locations, including Shake Shack, Blue Smoke on the Road, Palm Bar and Grille, Camden Foods and Uptown Brasserie. Shopping options include Coach, Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Tumi and Longchamp. Travelers will also find convenience stores and duty-free shopping outlets in the terminal.

Your La Guardia flight may leave from one of several terminals, especially if you are using American Airlines. Check your flight information for the specific terminal. La Guardia is undergoing a complete redesign, and you can expect new restaurants and gift shops, as well as an air train to get you to your terminal in the near future.

Newark Airport has 23 restaurants, including Dunkin Donuts, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Phillips Seafood and Ruby Tuesday. You will find 18 retail stores, from Hudson News to Papyrus and Tech on the Go. Your flight will leave from either Terminal A (American Airlines) or Terminal B (United).

At all three airports, you should arrive two hours before your departure time to allow for getting through security and finding your gate.

Destination Airport

You will fly into Tocumen International Airport and arrive at the main terminal. Note that if you are planning to stay in the terminal for a long period, the air conditioning is quite cold. You will need a sweater or blanket. You will have access to Wi-Fi, as well as showers at the Copa Club. You will also find luggage storage and car rental. The restaurants in the terminal close in the evening, so be sure you have enough food with you if you are going to stay in the airport into nighttime hours.
