Discover Kenya

Situated in East Africa, The Republic of Kenya is a country bordered by Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda. It has a growing population of 44 million and the bulk of those people live in the capital city of Nairobi. Despite having one of the continent’s strongest and most stable economies, like many other African countries, Kenyans suffer from poor quality of life, poverty, and sociopolitical unrest.

Tourism in the country has been popular for a long time, although there are still many areas where local tribes have had little to no contact with foreigners. The weather in Kenya is moderately tropical, but because of its high altitude (particularly in Nairobi), year-round nighttime temperatures can get cold.

Flights to Kenya

Kenya has many local and international airports, but the largest and busiest of these is Jomo Kenyatta, which can be found 10 miles southeast of Nairobi’s core. The airport serves an expanding passenger base of 6 million, and is ranked the ninth busiest in Africa. It is also a regional hub for Kenya Airways, African Express Airways, and Fly540.

No carriers currently offer nonstop flights to Kenya from the United States. International passengers can choose from British Airways, KLM, Emirates, Delta, American Airlines, Air France, Korean Air, United, Jet Airways, Saudia, and Condor.

Things to Do in Kenya

Kenya's capital city of Nairobi is a must-see. This bustling city offers tons of fun in the form of the Nairobi National Park, Nairobi National Museum, and Karen Blixen Museum. After your museum or park tour, be sure to visit the Masai Market as well. This busy marketplace provides visitors an opportunity to buy traditional woodcarvings, necklaces, and other crafts. Safaris often leave from Nairobi, so if you wish to head out on an African adventure, be sure to schedule it for the last day you will be in the capital city.

Of course, Mombasa should be seen as well. This city is home to the historic Fort Jesus, a World Heritage Site that is now used as a museum. In addition to Fort Jesus, Mombasa is also the place to go if you wish to see some incredible wildlife. The many reserves and parks in the area provide endless opportunities to see such animals as elephants, zebras, and even some colorful coral reefs.

Finally, you will want to make time for the top tourist destination, Lamu. This is the oldest town in Kenya, and it's full of character. This city gives visitors plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. For instance, dhow sailing, snorkeling, and watersports are all popular activities in the area. Additionally, the pristine beaches and adorable old town offer some more relaxing activity options.

The Best Time to Fly to Kenya

Depending on which parts of Kenya you visit, any time could be a good time to go. However, in general, it is best to head to this lovely country during the dry season in order to ensure you see the most wildlife and best weather possible. For this reason, we recommend traveling between June and November if at all possible.
