To get from Albuquerque’s dusty desert glories to Denver’s unspoiled mountain wilderness, you’ll need to travel 334 miles. On a direct flight, you can make the journey in just an hour and twenty minutes.

United and Southwest Airlines both have frequent non-stop services from Albuquerque to Denver, with between five and eight direct flights to choose from every day.

Making Your Way to Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)

There aren’t many airports more convenient than Albuquerque’s Sunport. It’s a quick drive from downtown, located just three miles away. Once you get there you’ve got a great choice of parking options which range from $7 to $10 a day.

If you’d rather not drive, there’s a good variety of public transportation options (at least on weekdays). The free ABQ Ride Public Bus 250 Downtown Express is a great option, linking the airport to the Alvarado Transportation Center. You can catch Public Bus 222, which is also a handy connection to the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. On Saturday you have the extra option of Public Bus 50. On Sundays, there is no bus service to the airport.

Sunport’s gorgeous collection of art certainly adds a lot to the airport’s atmosphere. It also gets great reviews from travelers for fast security lines, incredibly friendly staff, and selection of places to eat and drink. It’s a small airport, so getting around the terminal is never difficult.

Arriving in Denver

For many people, Denver is synonymous with the mountains and parklands that surround the city. This place gets far more than its fair share of sunshine, and outdoor living is the rule for much of the year. If you decide to rent a car, you’ll be free to roam the wilderness at will. We recommend taking a morning drive up the Mount Evans Scenic Byway: 15 miles of heart-stopping views which range through three separate ecosystems. Of course, skiing, hiking, and climbing are all incredibly popular pursuits here, with countless miles of gorgeous trails to explore.

In Denver proper, you’ll find that many of the best attractions also revolve around nature, particularly the fascinating Museum of Nature and Science and the peaceful Denver Botanic Gardens. It’s not all wilderness, though. Denver has a huge arts culture and a sparkling nightlife, and Larimer Square is the place to be for a great night out.
