Preparing For Your Trip
Flying from London’s Heathrow Airport to Barcelona is a quick hop across the sea that you’ll be able to take via Vueling, British Airways, KLM, Iberia, Aegean, British Airways, TAP, Brussels Airlines, Alitalia, and Swissair. All flights from Heathrow to Barcelona are direct, and all will touch down at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport.
Making Your Way Around Heathrow
Heathrow is one of the world’s busiest airports, which means that it’s regularly a hive of activity. Your flight will likely depart from Terminal 3 or Terminal 5, though if you pick carriers that don’t fly the route as frequently your flight will probably depart from Terminal 4. In Terminal 5, there are two concourses, and you can easily traverse between the two so you shouldn’t worry about sticking around in one if you can’t find a spot to sit.
No matter which terminal and concourse you end up in, you’ll have access to over a hundred shops and restaurants, though seating space is at a premium everywhere. If you’re religious, Heathrow has a chapel and a resident chaplain for most of the major religions.
Arriving in Barcelona
Touching down in El Prat Airport will leave you in Terminal 1, which can be a bit chaotic thanks to many long term renovations and construction activity. Don’t forget to adjust your clock one hour forward of London time. Grab your bags, and then decide which method of transportation you’d like to take to get to Barcelona itself.
If you’d like to take the train, you can do so via the station on the edge of the airport. The train connects to Barcelona’s metro system, and it’s a quick, cheap, and convenient ride. If you’d rather just get onto the metro system right away, you can do that too. Barcelona’s metro system’s Line 9 can take you from the airport into downtown quite quickly, though it can get crowded.
If you prefer to rent a car, you’ll have the ability to get your pick of the litter once you hop onto the shuttle leading to the car rental lot.
Getting Around in Barcelona
Barcelona is a touch warmer than London and a touch less rainy, but pack for a moderate season and you’ll be fine. Barcelona tends to be slightly cheaper than London as far as food goes, but is just as expensive to buy drinks. Expect to spend $12 on a quick lunch and $28 for an average dinner.
