Discover Fiji

This sparkling archipelago in the South Pacific is made up of more than 300 islands and over 500 tiny islets. Together they make up the Republic of Fiji, one of the world’s most beloved tropical retreats. Fiji offers cloudless skies, jaw-dropping scenery, pristine beaches, coral reefs packed with jeweled fish, and what seems like a country-wide conspiracy to give you the best vacation of your life.

Flights to Fiji

Nadi International Airport (NAN) is the Republic of Fiji’s main international airport, serving more than 2 million passengers annually. It’s located on Fiji’s main island, Vitu Levi, and whatever your final island destination, this is probably where you’ll begin your adventure.

NAN is the main hub for Fiji Airways and Pacific Sun, its regional subsidiary, which offer onward flights to the most popular Fijian destinations. Fiji Airways also operates direct flights from Los Angeles and Honolulu in the US. Nausori International Airport (SUV) is closer to the capital city of Suva, but offers only a few international flights.

Depending on your final destination (and unless you have no intention of leaving the capital), be prepared for various transfers: small prop airplanes, seaplanes, ferries, boats, buses: generally the more “untouched” and remote your island paradise, the more traveling you’ll have to do. It’s all part of the adventure, and once you finally arrive, you’ll have nothing to do but relax.

Stuff to do in Fiji

You might think you know how to chill, but Fiji takes it to a whole new level. The vast expanse of calm blue water, lush green foliage, and twinkling white sand is one of the most refreshing sights known to man.

When you’re ready for a little more adventure, what you get up to will depend on which island or resort you’re visiting. The open air markets on the larger islands are chaotic, friendly spots for shopping. Helicopter tours and boating day trips to remote islets give you a chance to see more of the unique topography.

Snorkeling, diving, and friendly encounters with sea turtles are commonly offered on most islands, or you can hike Fiji’s famous “Garden of Eden” on Taveuni Island, where waterfalls, rare orchids, towering ferns and emerald pools create an enchanting wonderland.

Advice to Tourists Visiting Fiji

You’ll need a passport to visit, but you probably won’t need an advance visa: more than 100 nationalities are given a free 4 month tourist visa on arrival. The local currency is the Fijian dollar. ATMs are common in populous areas and USD are easy to change at any bank. Almost everyone you’re likely to meet will speak English. The temperatures here hover in the 80’s year round, but between April and October there’s much lower humidity.
