Finding cheap flights from Denver International to San Diego: Frequently asked questions
Booking Your Flight
Flying from mountainous Denver to the breezy seaside San Diego is a smooth and easy time. When you fly on this route, you’ll land at the San Diego International Airport and have your pick from a few different carriers:
- United
- Frontier
- Spirit
- American Airlines
- Volaris
All flights along this route are direct, so you won’t need to worry about layovers. You’ll have your pick of flight times at any time of day that you prefer to fly, though it’s important to remember that San Diego’s time zone is one hour behind.
Leaving the Mountain City
Denver International Airport has three concourses, but you’ll probably depart from Concourse A. Concourse A also happens to be the busiest concourse, and also the concourse with an abundance of dining and shopping options. If you think you’re in the wrong concourse, the concourses are connected by a tramway which runs 24/7.
If you’re interested in art, there are murals on every wall of the airport, some of which are quite enjoyable.
Be sure to have your driver’s license ready so that you can board the plane. If you don’t have any summer clothing packed, you should probably pick some up, too—San Diego is warm, sunny, and a joy nearly all year long.
Arriving in Sunny San Diego
You’ll find yourself in Terminal 1 at the San Diego International Airport. Pick up your bags, and get ready to hop into a cab, call a rideshare, or rent a car. Rideshare apps are especially popular in San Diego, and they’ll be much cheaper than cabs or rental cars in addition to being quick and ubiquitous. Be aware that despite the abundance of rideshare cars, surge pricing is typically in effect 100% of the time around the airport.
You’ll find that the traffic in San Diego is the harshest around rush hour, and is only moderate during other times of the day. Getting to downtown shouldn’t take too long once you clear the clump of traffic immediately surrounding the airport, although if you booked a hotel, there’s a good chance that you’ll have to go a bit farther than downtown.
Exploring San Diego
San Diego is a more expensive city than Denver, but not by much. Though lodging can get expensive, it’s easy to find a decent lunch for $10 and a good dinner for $30.
Expect to spend on transit very frequently if you don’t rent a car—the city has a good amount of sprawl.
