Ponciano Arriaga International Airport
Ponciano Arriaga International Airport is located on the Matehuala Highway, about 15 miles from downtown. The airport is a gateway for international flights to Houston and Dallas as well as other destinations in Mexico. Car rental and taxis are available from the terminal, and hotels usually provide shuttle service. Taxis into town cost around $25 and about half that amount to go from town to the airport. Public bus transportation is about a mile from the main terminal at Terrestre Potosina where you can find buses into town as well as interstate buses.

The downtown of San Luis Potosi is very walkable, and it contains many of the historical landmarks. Plaza de Armas is one of several major plazas downtown, and here you can find a baroque cathedral and the governor's palace. It's also a lively area that hosts concerts and exhibits. Several blocks to the east is Templo de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, known for being one the most beautiful churches in Mexico.

San Luis's accommodations in the city center tend to cater to the backpacker. Many of the more upscale hotels are located near the main highways or the bus station. Due to its high altitude, the city experiences only a few hot days each year in this subtropical region, with summer temperatures typically staying in the low 80s. The bulk of the city’s precipitation is seen from May through October.
The favorite local dish consists of bright orange fried enchiladas known as potosinas. These are often served fried with refried beans and guacamole.
