There are many daily flight options from Chicago's airports to Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International. The lone regular non-stop option is a United flight out of O'Hare International, which takes a little over nine hours. However, there are many other options from both O'Hare and Midway International that make only one stop, take only one to three hours more and are usually much more competitively priced than the direct flight. These flights are available from a variety of major carriers and usually make one short stop in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle or Phoenix before heading on to Hawaii.

Facilities at Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

Daniel K. Inouye International is located in the central area of the island of Oahu's southern coast, just west of Honolulu and just east of Pearl Harbor. There isn't any rail at the airport, but there are several buses that serve Honolulu as well as points west. The only issue with these buses is that they will not allow bags or luggage that exceed 22″x14″x9″ in size. Of course, a wide variety of private transportation is available.

If renting a car is suddenly sounding like a much better idea, you'll find most of the major chains at the airport. And those that don't have locations directly on site usually have one a very short distance away on Queen Liliuokalani Highway. Many of these chains also have offices in the city of Honolulu.

Amenities at the airport include a baggage storage office, a number of business centers with computer stations, and a USO lounge for members of the military and their families. The airport does not currently have free WiFi throughout the whole facility, but members and first-class passengers can get complimentary WiFi at the airline lounges.

Dining options will vary depending on what gate you're coming in through. There is a food court pre-security that has a Pink Berry, California Pizza Kitchen, Chow Mein Express and Burger King among other options. There is also a Starbucks location behind every gate as well as in the food court.

If you want to relax while at the airport, take a stroll through the Cultural Gardens or the C.B. Lansing Garden, which feature local flora. You'll also find sculptures and murals by local artists throughout all of the terminals. Aviation enthusiasts will also want to check out the full-size model of the PN-9 used to complete the first trans-Pacific flight in history.

Things to Do Near Inoyue International

The biggest point of interest close to the airport is, of course, Pearl Harbor. There is still a Pearl Harbor Naval Base, which is not open to the public; visitors will instead want to start at the Pearl Harbor Visitor's Center. Visitors are welcome every day except for Thanksgiving and New Years Day. A visit to Pearl Harbor primarily consists of checking out the USS Arizona and USS Missouri Memorials and the Pacific Aviation Museum. It is also possible to go on a ferry tour, though be aware that these can be shut down by the Navy on short notice when they need the waters for military operations.
