What Airlines Fly This Route?
To fly from San Diego International Airport to San Jose International Airport, you can buy a ticket from Virgin America, Alaska Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and American Airlines. Depending on which carrier you pick and when you book your flight, you may need to have a layover, though there are nonstop flights if you are vigilant with your use of our mobile app.
Where Will I Depart From?
You’ll be departing from the San Diego International Airport’s Terminal 1, or Terminal 2 if you’re flying with Virgin America or American Airlines. Getting between terminals is easy via people mover, and you’ll get to see some cool artwork on the walls pretty much everywhere.
If you’re bored while waiting for your departure, try checking out the Sunset Cove dining and shopping area in Terminal 2, where there is a sky lounge open to the public. The sky lounge has a decent view, and it’s typically quieter than the noisy and busy main terminal area where the shops and restaurants are located.
What’s At The Landing Terminal?
San Jose International Airport will have any feature you might feel like you’re in need of, but there’s nothing particularly special to check out. If you haven’t booked your hotel yet, you can stay at the airport’s hotel or use our hotel finding toolto find accommodations in the Valley.
You should rent a car from the rental hub at San Jose, or budget to spend a large amount of money on using ridesharing apps. Public transportation in Silicon Valley isn’t effective, and nearly everyone relies on cars to get around, which means that you’ll be disabled if you don’t have one.
The exception to this rule is if you plan to only stay in the area around downtown San Jose, which is walkable and has enough public transit coverage to get by. Just remember that in the Valley distances tend to be long and cities tend to sprawl extensively.
How Are Different Are San Diego and San Jose?
The aforementioned sprawl is the biggest difference that you’ll notice between San Diego and San Jose. San Diego isn’t the most compact city, but travel times within the city tend to be short, and there’s even a chance that you could walk to your destination.
Not the case with San Jose. San Jose is a sprawling exurb, with most destinations far from the downtown area. Price wise, though San Diego isn’t the cheapest city, you’ll probably end up paying a little bit more for everything in San Jose, so plan accordingly.
On the bright side, San Jose’s moneyed techie population provides for many excellent culinary opportunities ranging from food trucks to ethnic cuisine stands, so be sure to take advantage of the food—especially the Mexican fare—while you’re there.
