Making Your Way Out Of Boston

Flying from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Washington DC’s Dulles Airport is a quick and cheap flight when you book with us here at Skyscanner. All flights along this route are direct, very regular, and available via Jet Blue, Virgin America, United Airlines, Southwest, Delta, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and even Linear Air Taxi.

When you book a flight on this route, you’ll depart from Logan’s Terminal A or Terminal B. The security lines at Logan can be a bit long and hectic, so try to arrive a little bit earlier than you would otherwise.

Once you’re through security, you’ll have access to a couple of dozen shops and restaurants. You probably won’t be able to shop at a boutique store or have any fine dining while at Logan, but there’s enough variety to please most who pass through. Wi Fi is free, provided that you register with the airport’s server.

You probably won’t have an issue finding a seat while at Logan, and the airport tends to be quiet during the morning hours until about noon.

Arriving At Dulles

After your short flight, touchdown at Dulles brings you to about half an hour from DC by road. At Dulles, you’ll probably find yourself in Concourse A, although Concourse B and C are possibilities too. Pick up your stuff and head outside into the warm and humid DC air.

Once outside, you can pick up the 5A Metrobus to go downtown, or hail a cab. The cab will cost about $60; most of the fare is regimented, and there’s a long distance to cover, so there’s not much wiggle room.

If you’d rather go into Virginia or the suburbs, the Fairfax Connector bus lines can take you there. If you take the 983 bus, you can make a connection to the DC subway system at Reston East station. The Flyer Silver Express bus also operates from Dulles and makes the same connection at Reston East.

If you’d rather hit up the outer suburbs, the Shenandoah Valley bus system has a stop near Dulles which will take you deep into the valley—or, to a connection with the DC metro at the Rosslyn station.

It’ll take you at least half an hour to get from Dulles to downtown DC or any of the metro connections, and up to an hour and a half in heavy rush hour traffic. Ride sharing rides departing from Dulles have to pay a series of additional fees, so they tend to be more expensive than elsewhere.

Traveling Into DC

DC is just as expensive as Boston, so plan accordingly. Unlike Boston, DC is relatively warm year round and has mild winters. In the summer, you should pack light clothing or else you’ll get stifled by the humidity.
