Facilities at Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport
Dallas / Fort Worth International is the Dallas metro area's primary airport, and is located in Grapevine to the northeast of Fort Worth and to the northwest of Dallas. The DART light rail has a stop directly at the airport. Passengers can catch the DART Orange Line from the airport into downtown Dallas, and can connect directly from the Orange Line to the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) to Fort Worth. It's important to note that the TRE doesn't operate on Sunday, however.
Dallas / Fort Worth is considered a world-class airport, and you can naturally expect a full range of rental car options. The agencies are gathered in the Rental Car Center, which is located near the airport's south entrance. A free shuttle runs from each terminal to the Rental Car Center 24 hours a day.
Of course, the airport also has a wide range of services and amenities. Minute Suites allows passengers in transit to rent a room for just a few hours or to simply catch a shower. You'll find free WiFi throughout the airport as well as free charging stations. You can schedule a visit with a massage therapist, make use of a nursing room or even drop in on a yoga class. Pet relief stations are available both before and after security. For business needs there are office workstations, mail and package drop boxes and several Western Union locations.
There are also a variety of lounges. Most are tied to airline rewards programs or reserved for premium ticket holders, like the United Club and Lufthansa Lounge. There is also a USO location for traveling military personnel and their families, however.
As far as dining options go, each terminal has a good range of choices. Pre-security options are much more limited, however, so you may want to stop off for something before leaving your terminal. One interesting point of note is Cereality in Terminal C, a cereal buffet complete with your choice of toppings.
Things to Do Near Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport
If you're venturing out of the airport, it's easy to take the Orange Line right into downtown Dallas. Some fun places to wander with lots of free sights and shops include the Pearl/Arts District, the Main Street District and the West End District. If you're spending the night (or longer) in Dallas, it's worth roaming farther out to see the Dallas World Aquarium and Zoo, George W. Bush Library and Museum, the Sixth Floor Museum, the Zero Gravity Amusement Park and Legoland.
