 Making Your Way to Atlanta

ATL’s layout and efficient staff make it fairly easy to navigate, despite its status as a major hub of transportation. The airport is split into two big terminals, separated by 7 parallel concourses, which are linked by the free Plane Train automated people mover. The two terminals are the Domestic Terminal and the International Terminal, and each has its own entrances from the various interstates.

Public transit options include the local Metropolitan Transit Authority (MARTA) city rail system and buses. The city rail option is the easiest. One way fares are only $2.50, the trip takes about 20 minutes, and the Airport Station is right off the baggage claim. Trains run every 15 to 20 minutes, from 4:45 am to 1 am weekdays and 6:00 am to 1 am on weekends.

Free WiFi is on offer throughout the airport, and Atlanta Hartsfield also provides a free TRAK-A-FLIGHT service, which sends updated flight and security wait-time right to your mobile device. The airport also has a robust art program and often features live musicians. There’s also a 1,000 square foot fenced dog park in the Domestic Terminal, as well as two additional relief areas.

Arriving in Savannah

Savannah’s gorgeously preserved boulevards, antebellum homes, live-oak trees dripping with Spanish moss, street cars and horse and carriage rides preserve the illusion that you’ve stepped back into a picture postcard of the past. For all its beauty and charm, Savannah isn’t one bit stuffy. There’s an old Georgia joke that claims “In Atlanta the first thing they’ll ask you is your business, in Charleston they’ll ask your mother’s maiden name, but in Savannah they’ll ask you what you’ll have to drink.”

As a city, Savannah is friendly and hospitable, and they do love to party. The best way to spend time in Savannah is to stroll slowly through the historic squares, relax on a riverboat cruise, or stretch out on a nearby beach and just drink in the beauty of this lovely old spot.
