WestJet flights & tickets

By the 1990’s it was clear to most players in the airline industry that something had to be done to address the world’s need for low cost, affordable airlines. In 1996, WestJet flights began operating based on the brand new, low cost model to great success. Today, the airline is the second largest airline carrier in Canada, behind the country’s flagship carrier Air Canada Airlines, operating around 425 daily flights to Canadian and international destinations around the world. In 2015, Skytrax rated WestJet Airlines as the second best low cost carrier in North America, and the eighth best in the entire world. WestJet’s success can be explained in part by the company’s cornerstone philosophy, which states that just because a passenger pays less, doesn’t mean they have to get less out of their flight.

Why Fly With WestJet Flights

WestJet Flights Baggage Requirements

Passengers on WestJet flights are allowed one carry-on bag or suitcase and one personal item (like a purse, diaper bag, small musical instrument, or laptop, just to provide a few examples) aboard the plane. Preferably, passengers should place one item in one of the overhead bins and the smaller personal item under the seat in front of them.

There is no stated weight limit for personal items, however, both items must fit inside the sizer at the airport check-in counter and be lightweight enough for the passenger to lift and place into the overhead bin without assistance. Special assistance is available for elderly, disabled and other passengers that require it.

For checked baggage, the fees will vary according to what type of ticket was purchased, departure airport and destination. Please check directly with the airline to find out whether or not complimentary baggage is included with your ticket, and what applicable fees will be applied for your situation. In general, Flex passengers are allowed one bag weighing up to 23 kg, and measuring up to 152 centimeters (62 inches).

Introducing WestJet Encore

WestJet Encore is newest addition to the WestJet family of airlines, and provides service to smaller communities using a fleet of Bombardier Q400 Turboprop aircrafts. The service includes a growing number of large and small airports in Canada, the US, Europe and the rest of the world, and the number of daily flights is increasing right along with the number of cities the airline serves. Baggage, food, and other details on Encore flights may differ from normal WestJet flights, and passengers are encouraged to check with the airline directly for pertinent details. Some amenities, like in flight entertainment and most buy-on-board services, are not available on WestJet Encore flights due to the limited size and space capacity of the aircraft.
