Preparing For Your International Flight
Flying from Las Vegas to Vancouver is a quick and relatively easy route, though you’ll still need to take the additional precautions necessary for an international trip.
Because this route is international, remember to bring:
- A non-expired US passport
- Pre-exchanged Canadian dollars
- A sweater
- Your packing list
By bringing your packing list, you’ll make filling out the onboard customs declarations form a simple matter of copying your list onto the form and estimating dollar values for any goods you intend to leave in Canada.
Leaving McCarran
You’ll be departing McCarran from Terminal 2, which has a modest selection of dining and shopping options. There are a few nice areas to sit at in McCarran, so you shouldn’t feel bored even if you can’t find a restaurant or shop to suit your fancy.
It’s usually a good idea to arrive two or three hours ahead of time for an international flight, but a flight from McCarran to Vancouver will likely be more efficient than elsewhere so you can probably get away with arriving only an hour and a half before your flight is set to depart.
When you fly on this route, you can pick from the following carriers:
- WestJet
- American Airlines
- Aer Lingus
- Alaska Airlines
- United
- Air Canada
- Delta
- Virgin Atlantic
Some flights along this route have a layover, but there are direct flights too. Check with us here at Skyscanner while you book so that you’ll have your pick of the litter.
Arriving in Vancouver
On final approach to Vancouver, your plane will land at Vancouver International Airport. Deplane and head through customs. Canadian customs are typically quite relaxed compared to other countries, so focus on being friendly and polite, and you won’t have any issues, even if you forgot to declare something.
Once you’re through customs, you’ll be in Vancouver Airport’s International terminal in the arrivals concourse. If you have time to spare, check out the airport’s aquarium on your way to the outside.
Exploring Vancouver
Getting from the airport to downtown Vancouver is extremely easy via the airport’s tram line, which connects to the rest of the Vancouver area’s transit system and can take you directly downtown without any connections.
If you’d prefer to take a bus, you can also hop on one of the Coast Mountain buses, which can take you downtown when the train isn’t running. The Coast Mountain buses also serve the countryside, so if you’re heading to the suburbs, they’re a better choice than the train.
You can also hail a rideshare car, which is a better option than a cab in Vancouver because it’s a bit cheaper and typically cleaner.
