The Ritz-Carlton Naples
Luxury meets sustainability at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples with CropBox, their sustainable, self-contained, on-site growing system. Tomatoes, zucchini, edible flowers, lettuce, and much more are grown at the hotel which has vastly reduced waste while providing guests with the freshest ingredients possible. Interesting enough, it’s not this single property that has embraced precision farming, the Ritz-Carlton brand as a whole is moving towards sustainably sourced food and beverage options.
Miraval Resort & Spa, Tucson
Freshness is the most important thing at the Miraval Resort & Spa. The organic garden and bee apiary help produce the freshest ingredients which are then used to create innovative dishes that are served at the on-site cactus flower restaurant. This is the best hotel in Arizona if you’re interested in learning more about where your food comes from and how to start your own bee hive.
The Willard InterContinental
With various green practices and programs, the Willard InterContinental located in Washington D.C. is committed to environmental sustainability. All food served at the hotel is locally sourced within a 300-mile radius which ensures the freshest ingredients. Recycling programs on-site include the Clean the World partnership which collects and recycles any discarded soap and shampoo products from guest rooms which are then distributed to impoverished people around the world. The dishwashers use 66% less water while the chemical drums from the laundry department and the hotel’s kitchen oil and grease are recycled.
The Westin Boston Waterfront
One of our top 10 hotels for going greener in the U.S. features a unique environment that’s a sensory overload. As soon as guests enter the Westin Boston Waterfront, they’ll be greeted by a lush vertical garden and trees throughout the lobby that helps purify the air. The neutral tones, energizing textures, and natural stone gives the lobby a natural feeling. Plenty of natural light also fills the lobby which was designed to help guests feel relaxed and inspired while they spend their time at the hotel and long after they’ve checked out.
The Proximity Hotel, Greensboro
The first LEED Platinum hotel in the United States is the Proximity Hotel located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ultra efficient materials help the building use 39.2% less energy than a conventional hotel/restaurant while 100 solar panels harvest the sun’s energy to help heat water throughout the hotel. The restaurant’s refrigeration equipment and elevators use updated technology to reduce water and energy consumption. The Proximity is an AAA Four-Diamond hotel and completely employee-owned.
Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile
Many people are afraid of bees, but the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile has a collection of 500,000 Carniolan honey bees. The bees have been around for 10 years and call the four hives on the 9th-floor rooftop home. Every year, 60 gallons of honey are harvested to create unique hotel items such as an exclusive beer brewed in partnership with Brickstone Brewery, house made granola, pastries, and desserts. Guests are encouraged to learn about the bees during their stay.
One Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
The One Hotel Brooklyn Bridge has been called the greenest hotel in New York City and it’s not hard to see why. The hotel is completely powered by wind, features plants and a hemp-blend mattress in every room, and offers free Teslas to guests who need a ride. Even the construction of the hotel was green since more than 50% of construction materials were reclaimed. Energy conservation is also a huge priority for the hotel since they use low-energy light bulbs and trapped rainwater to irrigate Brooklyn Bridge Park which is located next door.
Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa, New Hampshire
Located in the White Mountains area of New Hampshire, the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa has been honored as a 100% EPA Green Power Purchaser and has been presented with the Green Business Bureau Platinum Award. 100% of the hotel’s electricity is provided by renewable wind energy while the work farm produces much of the food that is served on-site. Even the meeting rooms are green by providing options that produce no waste including pitchers of water, online billing, non-disposable cutlery, and white boards.
Hotel Indigo Gaslamp
As a recipient of TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Platinum level status, and the recipient of the 2014 and 2015 Waste Reduction and Recycling Award by the City of San Diego, it’s no wonder the Hotel Indigo Gaslamp is one of the top hotels for going greener in the U.S. The hotel has been LEED certified since 2009 and features recycling bins in every guest rooms making it easy for guests to sort their waste. Guests have the opportunity to learn about the property’s green practices which include the green rooftop which has native plant species.
Element Austin Downtown

Every room is friendly to the environment and features Energy Star rated appliances, silverware and glassware to reduce waste, and bath amenities in dispensers instead of mini-bottles.
