Making your way to Mineta San Jose International Airport
Just two miles from downtown San Jose, SJC is easy to access by car or public transportation. The VTA route #10 Airport Flyer connects SJC to most of the city’s public transit options. It runs every 15-30 minutes from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The shuttle operates on a continuous loop between the Metro Light Rail Station, the Santa Clara Caltrain Station and both airport terminals. For those who prefer to cycle, bike parking is available.
SJC has two terminals, A, and B, which are connected airside by a courtesy shuttle. As you might expect from an airport in the tech epicenter of the universe, SJC offers unlimited free WiFi which features a free security application encrypt otherwise open connections. Chairs have power sockets, USB ports, and cords for charging devices. There’s also a common use lounge called “The Club.” For $35 you can access complimentary food, beverages, workstations with PCs and printers, a business center, shower facilities, and more.
Arriving in San Diego
The Mexican border is on the horizon, and San Diego shares much of the culture of its southern neighbor. You’ll find incredible Mexican food and flood of beautiful indigenous crafts on sale at the Old Town Market, which also offers historical sites and museums. The incredible San Diego Zoo is also always worth at least an afternoon of your time.
Of course, just hanging out at the beach is often the best way to spend your time in San Diego. The city’s sunny weather is legendary, but to get the best dose of vitamin D, avoid visiting in May and June, which are famously foggy. In turn, September and October are oppressively hot, as the Santa Ana winds furiously assault the city and cause the risk of wildfires.
