Departing John Wayne Airport

Because of John Wayne Airport’s small size, the three terminals are contiguous, and you can walk between them in a couple of minutes. You’ll need to have your US driver’s license ready to board your flight, but you can expect lines to move quickly and efficiently.

There is rarely an abundance of passengers in the terminal, so you should be able to find a seat without a problem. You may have a hard time finding one of the luxurious Southwest style patio tables for yourself, though. If you’re hungry, there are a handful of places to eat at John Wayne, as well as a standard collection of places to shop.

Arriving in Phoenix

When you touch down at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, you’ll probably be in Terminal 4. In Terminal 4, you’ll have easy access to the PHX Sky Train, which connects you to the transportation center. In the transportation center, you’ll be able to rent a car, hop on the metro, hail a taxi, or get onto the bus.

If you want to get downtown, the PHX Sky Train station has a stop at Washington Street where you can make the connection to the region’s light rail system, which then goes directly downtown. By bus, the number 13 bus links to the rest of the region’s bus system, which can eventually take you down town.

In Phoenix

Phoenix is renowned for its year round dry heat, which surpasses the heat of Orange County. In some years, Phoenix experiences more than a hundred days of temperatures greater than 100 degrees. Phoenix is also extremely sunny and doesn’t get much cooler at night.

Be sure to bring sunblock, suitably cool clothing, and plenty of water. Phoenix isn’t as expensive as Orange County, though it’s still subject to the prices of a large urban area. You should find Phoenix easy to navigate thanks to its expansive and orderly city grid.
