Just 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela, this autonomous protectorate of the Netherlands provides a dream escape to 1.5 million tourists each year.

The fastest way to get your Caribbean adventure started is to arrive by plane. Reina Beatrix International Airport (AUA) is located on the central west coast, and serves 2.5 million passengers each year. It offers US Border Preclearance to make getting home a little bit easier. Over 30 airlines serve AUA, and four (Aruba Airlines, Insel Air, and Tiara Air) have made it their hub. 26 countries offer direct routes, making it easy to find cheap flights to Aruba.
Getting from the airport to the rest of the island is easy. Taxis are safe and government-run, and many major car rental companies operate from the airport. For those on a budget, Aruba also boasts a great bus service with economical fares.
Stuff to do in Aruba
Aruba packs a lot of fun into a mere 20 miles. Parasailing, snorkeling, tubing, and banana boating are available for the adventurous, but just lying on the beach for hours is also highly encouraged. After all, Eagle Island beach was recently named one of the top 10 in the world!
The California Lighthouse, located on the most northern tip of the island, might be Aruba’s most famous man-made landmark.
For the animal lovers, there’s an ostrich farm near Oranjestad and a donkey sanctuary in Santa Cruz. If you’re looking for a taste of history and a touch of adventure, you can roam the ruins of the Bushiribana Gold Mill.
Advice to Tourists Visiting Aruba
You’ll need a valid passport to enter Aruba, but Americans, Canadians, and citizens of the EU will not need visas. You’re welcome to stay up to thirty days at a time, but not more than a full 180 days in one year.
The two official languages are Dutch and Papiamento but both English and Spanish are widely spoken, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty. The currency of Aruba is the florin,
