Advice to Tourists Visiting Honduras

You’ll need a passport to visit, but citizens of most western countries will not need a visa. Use common sense at all times regarding valuables and do not walk alone at night, even for very short distances. Bottled water is recommended.

The language here is Spanish, and levels of English fluency are very low outside of metropolitan areas. You’ll have a better visit if at least one member of your party speaks some Spanish. At a minimum you should carry a phrasebook or translation app.

The currency is the Lempira, but US dollars are accepted just about anywhere. Bring new, clean notes, in small denominations.

The temperature is generally hot and humid all year, with variations in climate relating more to altitude than to season. Rainy seasons also vary by location, so when you visit will be dictated by your destination within the country.
