Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the primary airport serving the Cape Town area and is located about 12 miles from downtown. It is the third busiest airport in Africa and has two terminals. All of these airlines offer nonstop flights to Johannesburg, and you can find direct flights every day of the week.
O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) is the main airport serving the Johannesburg region. It is located in Kempton Park Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, which is 17 miles from downtown Johannesburg. All domestic flights will arrive at either Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 at JNB. To get to the city, you can use the bus or train. If you prefer to not use public transportation or are unfamiliar with the area, consider a taxi or limo. A taxi ride to the city takes about 30 to 45 minutes and may be the quickest option.
What to Know When Traveling From CPT
Before arriving at Cape Town International, check with your airline to see what documents you'll need to have when you board. Be sure to arrive at least one hour before your flight to ensure enough time for parking, check-in, and security. When you arrive, you will check-in first at the central terminal, and then head over to the domestic terminal located to the right of the main building. CPT requires a photo ID at the boarding gate.
