Tokyo Haneda is technically the smaller of Tokyo's two airports, but it's still very big. It's the fifth-busiest airport in the world, seeing about 75 million passengers per year, and focuses on business flights from all over the world.

If you're flying to Tokyo Haneda from the United States, you can catch flights originating from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Honolulu and JFK Airport in New York. Carrier options include American, Delta, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines and United. Outside of the United States, you can find a flight to Tokyo Haneda from pretty much any major city in the world.

When are Fares to Tokyo Haneda Airport Lowest?

Since Haneda specializes in business traffic, you'll generally find fares are higher than those to Tokyo Narita. As far as peak and low seasons go in Tokyo, it's more about the major holidays than the weather. You'll find higher fares and hotels slammed during the Golden Week that begins at the end of April, the Buddhist Bon festival (two days in the middle of August) and the period from Christmas to New Years Day.

Outside of the Christmas holiday period, winter is the off-season for Tokyo travel and likely when you'll see the lowest fares. It's always possible to see great deals pop up in any period when there isn't a major festival or major convention in town, however.

Arriving at Tokyo Haneda Airport

United States citizens do not need a visa to enter Japan for stays of up to 90 days. This is only for leisure travel, however, business or employment requires a visa. You also can't change the status of the visa while in the country; you have to leave and re-enter.

Tokyo Haneda is a large, modern airport with a wide range of facilities and amenities. A full range of medical services and services for child care are available along with banks, ATMs, currency exchange, luggage storage and lockers, showers, free WiFi and business centers. There are also premium lounges that members with high tier status in certain airline reward programs get complimentary access to, and that other ticketed passengers can pay a fee to enter.

Transportation from Tokyo Haneda Airport

You can catch the Keikyu train line from the airport, which travels through most of Tokyo's major stops. A large shuttle bus (with space underneath for luggage) is also available and stops at a variety of popular tourist destinations such as Tokyo Sky Tree Town and Mount Fuji.

Taxis are also available, and licensed taxis must charge a flat fare (though it varies depending on your destination, and there is an added surcharge for late night / early morning trips).

If you'd like to rent a car, several agencies are available at the airport including Europcar, Toyota, Orix and Hertz.

Things to Do in Tokyo

You could spend months trying to see and do everything in Tokyo.
