Making your way to Logan Airport

Even though it’s the main airport for a major urban center, Logan somehow manages to seem small and friendly. It has all the amenities, restaurants and shopping opportunities you’d expect from a big city airport, but it’s easy to get around, and rarely feels crowded. All four terminals are connected by moving walkways and shuttles.

Driving to Logan is fairly simple, though traffic can be an issue. All routes are clearly marked, though if you drive through certain tunnels you’ll need to pay a toll. Parking at Logan is on the expensive side, though weekly deals are available. You can skip all that by taking public transportation to the airport.

The MBTA’s Silver Line is an express airport service with lots of room for luggage. It connects with the Red Line at South Station, and there are only a few stops on the way. It makes stops at each terminal. You can also take the Blue Line, but you’ll need to catch the free Massport shuttle from the airport stop to your terminal.

Arriving in San Diego

It might be constantly compared to its big sister San Francisco, but San Diego is well loved by natives and visitors alike. It’s relaxed, culturally diverse, and even more devoted to the peace-loving, eco-focused California lifestyle. Several tech giants have moved in, boosting both the economy and the population, but through it all the city has managed to hang onto more of a small-town feel.

Sunshine is one of San Diego’s biggest assets (except in May and June when thick banks of clouds take up temporary residence) and that means that outdoor life is huge here. The beaches are gorgeous and varied, welcoming surfers, boaters, whale-watchers and sand-castle builders almost year-round.

Getting around by bike is encouraged, and it’s a fun way to take in San Diego at its own laid back pace. Roll by the old missions and new boutiques, and stop for a burrito at a corner taqueria. For animal lovers, a day at the world-famous San Diego Zoo is a must. If art is more your thing, the San Diego Museum of Art has a gorgeous permanent collection and frequent special exhibitions.
