Many of the flights from Tokyo to Bangkok have a short layover at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, though direct flights exist if you hunt them down with our help here at Skyscanner.
Flying during the summertime will be a bit cheaper than flying during other seasons, though you shouldn’t have a problem easily making a booking with the scheduling of your choice at any time during the year. All of the flights along this route fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.
Departing Tokyo
Flights along this route depart from either Haneda Airport or Narita Airport, both of which are easily accessible within the Tokyo metro area.
If you depart from Narita Airport, expect to leave from Terminal 2, which has plenty of shopping and dining options despite a shortage of sitting space. If you depart from Haneda Airport, you’ll be leaving from the international terminal. Be sure to enjoy Haneda’s Japanese-village aesthetic among the many shops.
Arriving in Bangkok
Once your plane touches down, you’ll arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s arrival terminal, which will likely be very crowded with people.
Make your way to the transportation hub, where you’ll find the Airport Rail Link, the commuter train, a free shuttle bus, and taxi stands. The Airport Rail Link runs from 6 AM until midnight and can bring you downtown. The commuter train services the suburbs, but isn’t as tourist friendly as the rail link.
Taxis are extremely cheap but prone to overcharge. Unless you’re trying to get to somewhere out of the way, the Airport Rail Link is probably your best choice to reach Bangkok’s downtown.
Enjoying Bangkok
Compared to the austere continental climate of Tokyo, Bangkok is loud, messy, and extremely hot. While sunburn shouldn’t be much of a concern due to regularly overcast skies, the copious humidity and hot temperatures mean that you should pack light clothes. Be sure to bring a rain jacket or umbrella to cope with the frequent showers, especially if you decide to visit during monsoon season.
Happily, Bangkok is significantly less expensive than Tokyo. Whereas a meal in Tokyo might cost $15, you’ll find that a meal in Bangkok costs $7. Lodging and electronics tend to be cheap, too, as is transportation.
