Visitors can take a bus from the airport into the city, or they may instead opt to take a taxi to the Poblado metro station and proceed from there. The airport itself was updated in 2010, and it has cafes and shops. There is also a memorial to the famous tango singer Carlos Gardel. Attached to the airport is an outdoor observation deck, allowing visitors to observe planes on the tarmac.

In the southwest section of the city is the Cerro Nutibara, a 262-foot-tall hill. On top, you'll find the Pueblito Paisa, which is a miniature version of an Antioquia township. An interesting thing to see in Medellin is the Hacienda Nápoles Adventure Park. There, you can stroll through an abandoned mansion once owned by Pablo Escobar and see the vehicles he left behind. There are also rides available for children, a water park and displays showing some of the history of Escobar. Many visitors enjoy heading out to see the Río Claro Valley in eastern Antioquia. The Rio Claro river is crystal clear and has a marble-lined river bed. There are many species of birds for those who enjoy bird watching.

On weekends, the local head to throbbing discos that play techno music, reggae and salsa. Many of these establishments are found both in the Poblado area as well as downtown. Many visitors choose to stay in hotels near the metro station or in the Poblado area.
