Flights to Medellin land at the Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH), which is conveniently located in the southwest part of the city next to the south bus terminal. Visitors can take a bus from the airport into the city, or they may instead opt to take a taxi to the Poblado metro station and proceed from there. The airport itself was updated in 2010, and it has cafes and shops. There is also a memorial to the famous tango singer Carlos Gardel. Attached to the airport is an outdoor observation deck, allowing visitors to observe planes on the tarmac.

In the southwest section of the city is the Cerro Nutibara, a 262-foot-tall hill. On top, you'll find the Pueblito Paisa, which is a miniature version of an Antioquia township. Next to the Pueblito Paisa is an observation deck from which you can view the city sprawled out below as well as the surrounding mountain peaks.
An interesting thing to see in Medellin is the Hacienda Nápoles Adventure Park. There, you can stroll through an abandoned mansion once owned by Pablo Escobar and see the vehicles he left behind. There are also rides available for children, a water park and displays showing some of the history of Escobar. Many visitors enjoy heading out to see the Río Claro Valley in eastern Antioquia. The Rio Claro river is crystal clear and has a marble-lined river bed. There are many species of birds for those who enjoy bird watching.
On weekends, the local head to throbbing discos that play techno music, reggae and salsa. Many of these establishments are found both in the Poblado area as well as downtown. Many visitors choose to stay in hotels near the metro station or in the Poblado area.
Hints and Tips for Visiting Medellin
Each year, Medellin celebrates the annual Feria de las Flores, or the Festival of the Flowers. This festival lasts for a week each August and features a pageant, a horse parade, a car show and many music performances. The city is filled with plazas, parks, museums and many other great places to people watch.
Cuisine in Medellin is varied with traditional Colombian food such as dishes made with pork, rice, corn, beans, chicken and potatoes. Dining is very inexpensive; the average cost of a meal for two people eating in a restaurant is only around a total of $8. The weather year-round is temperate in Medellin, leading it to be nicknamed "The City of Eternal Spring."
