Flight Route Options

Direct flights from London to Copenhagen are plentiful, and fairly quick, lasting around 1 hour and 50 minutes. If you’re looking for low-cost tickets, you can fly with either Ryanair or Easyjet – Ryanair departs from London Luton, while Easyjet hosts flights to Copenhagen from both Luton and Gatwick airports. If you’re flying from Heathrow, you can fly with British Airways or SAS, and Norwegian airlines fly from Gatwick.

Pay attention to which airline you’ve booked with, as meal and luggage allowances vary quite a lot from airline to airline. Ryanair and Easyjet are famous for their strict adherence to hand luggage size limits, and you won’t get a free checked bag included with your ticket. These airlines tend to check that you’re luggage isn’t oversized before your flight, and oversized luggage will incur a fee, so do make sure to check up beforehand. Similarly, while British Airways tends to include a complimentary meal, snack, and/or beverage service even on short flights, the discount airlines only have food and drink available for purchase. Check Skyscanner’s airline information pages for a run-down of essential information on your airline, and make sure to confirm with the airline itself for the most up-to-date information.

Immigration

American citizens do not need visas to visit either the UK or Denmark as tourists for stays under 90 days, although visas are required for work or study in both countries. You will have to pass through immigration upon your arrival into Denmark.

Time Zone, Language, Currency

Denmark is on Central European Time, putting it one hour ahead of London. The main language spoken in Denmark is Danish, however you’ll find that most people speak English to a high level. Denmark does not use the Euro, but uses the Danish krone (DKK) instead. 1 Danish Krone is worth about 15 US cents, but always check the currency rate closer to your time of travel, as rates fluctuate.

Denmark is somewhat farther north than London, so if you’re travelling in December or June especially, you’ll probably notice a difference in daylight hours. It’s also more likely to get snow in winter than London, with average daytime temperatures hovering just around freezing.
