Peak and Low Seasons in Reykjavik

Reykjavik is known for having a long winter broken up by three months of summer from June to August. Naturally, flights and hotels will be more booked up during the long period. It's also important to consider that daylight during the summer lasts for far longer than normal, with almost 24 hours of sunlight for a few weeks starting in June.

While it's possible for temperatures to be uncomfortably cold and for snow to fall in May and September, these months are usually relatively mild and are the ones that travelers looking for deals tend to target.

As with summer, in the depths of winter there is a period of a few weeks where there is only about three to five hours of sunlight. While winters are cold in Reykjavik, they are not as brutal as one might expect from a country called Iceland, with average temps in the high 30s and snow showers tending to be brief. Prices will definitely be lowest for travelers during this period.

Lodging Near Keflavik International Airport

There are many hotel options near the airport and just a short drive away in Reykjavik's central downtown area, but rates in this area tend to be very high, running $200 to $400 USD a night during the warmer months. Rates tend to go down the farther out from the airport and downtown one goes, but the available options also thin out, with very little available past the areas of Gardabear to the south and Kjosarhreppur to the north. Reykjavik is expensive, and the only real budget lodging options are hostel beds in shared dorms, but you can at least hunt for the best possible value by using the Hotel Search tool for your desired dates.
