Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (ASE)

Your cheap flights to Aspen-Pitkin County Airport will land just 3 miles from the center of this ski resort city. Though the airport is small, it sees around 30 commercial flights each day, primarily from United Express and American Airlines. Once you have landed, you can get into the city via taxi for less than $20. However, if you do plan to explore the area surrounding Aspen, a rental car is your best bet.

Attractions in Aspen

There is no shortage of exciting things to do in Aspen. Downtown Aspen provides a picturesque, small-town feel with lots to see and explore. Much of the area is made up of pedestrian streets lined with restaurants, high-end boutique stores and shops selling ski equipment and souvenirs. Aspen is located in Colorado's wine country region, you can be sure to find great local wine at any restaurant. Wine lovers and connoisseurs can also plan trips to the many nearby vineyards located in Montrose, Palisade, Paonia and Hotchkiss for tours and wine tastings. For more destinations just outside of the city center, try John Denver Park. This popular destination provides ample hiking trails and swimming creeks. Many visitors also enjoy the nearby Maroon Bells where you can see beautiful mountain and lake views. 

Skiing and other winter sports are the main attractions of this quaint city. For those who plan to hit the slopes, you have four mountains to choose from: Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. You can purchase day passes to ski on these mountains or stay at one of the ski lodges or resorts located near the mountains for easy access to the slopes. For those who don't care to ski or snowboard, both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass have gondola rides to the top for scenic views and a front-row view of the sports action. 

Aspen Travel Tips

Aspen is a great place to visit year-round. While the city may be known for its outdoor activities, it is also a great music destination. Each September, the city plays host to the Jazz Aspen Snowmass, which feature a range of international and local artists. The Food & Wine classic also takes place in June and highlights the area's local food and drink. 

Pack plenty of warm clothing for your ski trip because winter temperatures tend to stay around freezing and drop down to the single digits at night. Summer, however, is surprisingly warm with high temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s, so you can easily enjoy the ample outdoor activities in the area.
