Climb the 8,000 feet to Pike’s Peak, which may be America’s most photogenic mountain, and you will be rewarded by beautiful views. If your legs aren’t up to the trek, never fear. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway has been carrying visitors up the incline since 1891, and it’s a thrilling trip for the whole family.

Colorado Springs is also home to the Air Force Academy, which is open to the public. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a training exercise. The thrill of fighter jet maneuvers never really wears off.

Advice to Tourists Visiting Colorado Springs

Summer is the most popular time to visit Colorado Springs, and it’s easy to see why: the lovely 70 to 80 degree days are perfect for spending outside. Spring can also be lovely. Snowmelt swells the rivers, making whitewater rafting even more exciting, and hotel prices are low. One exception is May, when the Air Force Academy Graduation is on. Skiing is popular in the winter, though relatively mild temperatures can make the snow unpredictable. Our favorite time here is actually September through early October. Temperatures hover between the 50s and 70s to keep you cool on all those hikes, and the autumn colors on the mountains have to be seen to be believed.
