Making your way to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport
Located a mere two miles from the Las Vegas strip, McCarran International is a busy, but manageable airport. There are three terminals in total, but only two are in use. Terminal 1 is the domestic terminal, and with 94 gates spread out across 4 long concourses, it can be a bit frantic at high-volume times, but navigation is simple. Terminal 3 is the recently completed International terminal, which replaced the now closed Terminal 2. True to form, you’ll find slot machines in both terminals, just in case you feel the need for a last-minute flirtation with Lady Luck before your flight.
Getting to McCarran is easy by car and there’s plenty of parking. Just remember that the lots are specific to each terminal. Taxis are cheap enough in Las Vegas that you might end up paying less for your fare than you’d spend on long-term parking: the average taxi trip will cost you about $20. In terms of public transportation, you can choose from several RTC bus routes serving the airport, as well as a variety of private shuttle services.
Arriving in San Diego
A chilled-out coastal city just over the border from Mexico, San Diego attracts visitors for its sunny weather, slow pace of life, and family-friendly attractions. From the world-famous San Diego Zoo to the stark Point Loma lighthouse, the city and its surrounding areas are packed with wonderful destinations to while away a warm afternoon.
If you’re coming in search of the sunshine, locals recommend avoiding May and June, when clouds and fog take their turn in the climate. The scorching Santa Ana winds kick up in September and October, marking the hottest season and the time when wildfires are a risk. For the rest of the year.
